NEW YORK, July 20 -- The following can be attributed to Dick Valentine:
Hi! We are about to leave for London for about five days to play 4 songs at the Big Gay Out in Finsbury Park. This will be a fantastic event and we are happy to make the journey.....however, this puts me in a bad spot in that I am going to miss a few episodes of Rock Star: INXS. This show has managed to captivate me like no other. There is so much right about this show and so much wrong at the same time and the end result is that I am unable to sleep. And it feels great.
So, I ask you, the vaguely interested in our affairs, if you could send me a little recap of the episodes that air between July 22 and July 26, when I am in the UK and most likely unable to view the show. I want to know who gets voted off, what songs were featured and what the members of INXS had to say about their performances. I don't need to know anything about Dave Navarro, so no worries there.
I grew up with INXS. I share the same birthday as Michael Hutchence. I love Australia.
When I say this show is the perfect combination of right and wrong, I mean it. Let me give you an example. A few weeks back, after George W. Bush gave his "stay the course in Iraq" speech, I soon found online that there was a very telling breakdown of key phrases in his speech along the lines of:
-- references to "freedom": 45
-- references to "September 11th": 17
-- references to "spreading democracy": 24
-- references to "weapons of mass destruction": zero
And so it is with Rock Star: INXS, and this is what makes this show so right.....and so wrong.
-- references to "the pressures of performing in front of 100,000 screaming fans": 76
-- references to "your back was up against the wall......and you nailed it!": 14
-- references to "I want to see more from you": 25
-- references to "Michael Hutchence": zero
So, yeah, if you could, keep me up to date. Let me know how it goes.
