The Ballade of MC Sucka DJ (Flying Bomb)
While we're on the topic of funk, let's take a little jaunt into the world where rock'n'roll and hip hop collide. In the case of the Electric Six (formerly The Wildbunch)'s new single on Ypsilanti's Flying Bomb Records, "The Ballade of MC Sucka DJ," it's less a collision than a really tangled leg rasslin' match. Led be the O.G. leanin', gin and juice sippin', more bounce to the ounce mic skeels of front-but-not-frontin' man Jackson Pounder, the Bunch locks into a groove here that blurs the line between party-time parody and sincerity so thoroughly that it's no surprise Electric Six (formerly The Wildbunch) crowds have been known to, in the words of House of Pain, jump around.
The nominal A-side features the subtle fave "Take Off Your Clothes" and the thought-provoking "Nuclear War (on the Dancefloor)." If you want to put the "fun" in your next "funky dance party," pop on this little gem, put a nickel on the phono needle and proceed to get busy.
